This holiday, Albemarle’s sweet haven for seniors to celebrate new beginnings with style and decorum has done it again.
A little over a hundred local seniors, along with others from surrounding counties, brought in the New Year with an annual dance party at the Stanly County Senior Center Tuesday evening.
The event had live music by the Randy Clay Band, a long spread of finger foods, and a room packed with well-dressed and energized bodies dancing until the start of 2025.
Lottie Williams, a first-time attendee from Landis, stood out in an elegant red evening gown and was elated that she was invited to join her peers.
When asked about her New Year’s resolution, she said “It is to get closer to God.”
In addition to having a positive outlook on her future, Williams was also grateful to live another year for her birthday.
“I want to lose 20 pounds next year,” said Tim Troutman, as he explained his outlook on living a fulfilling life with his family.

Roger and Joan Eudy, residents of Stanly County, both agreed that it is important to continue to live every day as their last and to be kind to people as an ongoing resolution.
“My new year’s resolution is to have more fun. I enjoy coming to the center, and I have made friends. Having family and friends are important to me,” said Dora Drye, the party’s supervisor.
Don Morrison, 84, and his wife, Rachel, 80, were all smiles as they enjoyed the music mix of oldies and new songs from the band.
Don said his new year’s resolution was to “stay healthy and make it through the year.”
