During Christmas each year from about 1970 until at least 1989, Ed and Peggy Strickland and their family decorated their home on North Cotton Avenue in Albemarle. (For a while the Caudle family next door also participated in the display.) Over the years the display grew, and it became a highlight of the Christmas season for many members of the community. At one point the family decorated the home for Halloween as well. According to the Oct. 30, 1981 Stanly News & Press, children from Central Elementary School would take a field trip and walk to the home to see the Halloween display. Descriptions were provided of the characters that were on display. Please contact me at lpbramlett@hotmail.com if you happen to have pictures of the Strickland family home when it was decorated for the holidays. {Lewis Bramlett – Stanly County Historical Society}
