The Oakboro Town Commissioners unanimously approved the renaming of the board’s meeting space at Town Hall to honor a long-standing former board member and mayor.

At Monday’s meeting, the commissioners passed a resolution to rename the board room as the “Joyce Little Board Room” and presented a framed copy of the resolution to Little’s family.

Outgoing mayor Chris Huneycutt read the proclamation to citizens in attendance, first listing around 20 people who served during Little’s time on the town board and later as mayor. Little was mayor of Oakboro on three occasions, from 1993-2003, 2007-2011 and 2018-2002.

“Joyce Little worked tirelessly to expand services to the community and the town of Oakboro,” the proclamation said. “(She) provided many years of invaluable service to the residents and community of Oakboro.”
