Stanly commissioners elect new chair, vice chair, assign committee appointments

The Stanly County Board of Commissioners swore in a new member and incumbent Monday night, then conducted an organizational meeting to determine the board’s new chairperson and vice chairperson.

After swearing in Scott Efird and Billy Mills, Commissioner Brandon King nominated Commissioner Mike Barbee for the chair position, while Commissioner Bill Lawhon nominated Efird.

Barbee received votes from himself and Commissioners King, Mills, Patty Crump and Trent Hatley, confirming him as the new chair.

For vice chair, Lawhon nominated Crump, then Crump nominated King. During the vote, King received votes from himself and Commissioners Barbee, King and Mills to win the post.

The board also unanimously approved a list of which committees on which each commissioner would serve.

King and Lawhon will serve on the Economic Development Board, while Crump and King will serve on the Consolidated Health Services Board.

Efird will serve on the Board of Trustees for the Stanly County Public Library, while King and Hatley will serve on the Stanly Airport Authority Board.

Hatley will serve as chair of the Fire District Commission, with Mills on the Senior Services Board.

The main board representative for the Rocky River Rural Planning Organization will be Mills, with Efird serving as an alternate.

Hatley will serve as the main representative for the Stanly County Water and Sewer Authority, with Barbee as the alternate. Barbee will also be serve on the Centralina Council of Governments, with Lawhon as the alternate.

Efird will serve on the Partners Behavioral Health board, and Crump will serve on the Juvenile Crime Prevention Council.
