Stanly commissioners approve new community board members

Two local boards have new members after receiving unanimous approval from Stanly commissioners at Monday’s meeting.

For the Stanly County Water and Sewer Authority Board, chair Bill Rigsbee was approved for a new two-year term, nominated by Commissioner Bill Lawhon. Rigsbee worked for 35 years at Pass and Seymour as a director of purchasing, along with nine years as an accounting supervisor.

Commissioners also approved David Jackson to the board with a 7-0 vote, nominated by Vice Chair Brandon King. Jackson, according to the agenda packet, has retired after 30 years of working with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

The board also approved four new members for the Stanly County Senior Services Advisory Board for three year terms.

Antwain Hamilton was named to the board, after working with Monarch for 24 years and GHA Autism Supports for 12. Isabelle Howard retired from the field of insurance and volunteers by helping with tax preparation at the Stanly County Senior Center.

Dawn Melton joins the board after retiring from 38 years of employment at Uwharrie Bank in bank operations and information technology, along with shareholder relations, and Teresa Wagoner is a retired public school kindergarten teacher from the Guilford County and Greensboro City systems.
