The Stanly Kart Raceway, about a half mile from Anderson Grove Church, held its grand opening on Aug. 27, 1960. According to the Stanly News & Press, the track was a “one-fifth mile paved road course that was 20 feet wide and included pit facilities for the drivers.” C.K. Earnhardt & Sons had done the grading and paving, while Snuggs Electric had done the lighting and fixtures. During the opening day event, there were 23 cars that participated in the races. In addition, nearly 1,000 spectators were in attendance. The track seems to have been active until at least late May 1965, but what happened is not clear. A notice of dissolution later appeared in the Sept. 9, 1966 SNAP announcing the paperwork to close the business had been filed back in May 1966. {Lewis Bramlett – Stanly County Historical Society}
