Stanly County Health Department is joining Partners Health Management to host a community discussion on suicide.
This free event will be 5:30-7:30 p.m. Nov. 14 at the Stanly County Agri-Civic Center.
The event will begin with a mental health resource fair with refreshments served. Local organizations will provide information and resources for suicide prevention.
The event will then transition to a panel discussion on suicide. Community members serving on the panel include Dr. Kara Finch of Stanly Community College, Norwood Police Chief James Wilson, Maria Stine, LCSW of Stanly County Schools, Curtis Parker of Albemarle Church of Christ and Anjie Vickers, MSN of the National Alliance on Mental Illness.
There will be time allotted for questions from the audience. The event will end with a call to action for individuals to sign up for QPR training. QPR training helps individuals learn how to recognize the warning signs of a suicide crisis and how to question, persuade and refer someone to help.
Suicide is the leading cause of death among ages 10 to 18 in North Carolina and the suicide rate has increased in Stanly County.
