Pfeiffer Men’s Cross Country wins first USA South championship

The Pfeiffer University men’s cross country team captured its first USA South title and second conference championship in program history on Saturday morning in Rocky Mount.
Pfeiffer placed seven runners in the top-10 on the way to dethroning three-time defending champion Southern Virginia, who finished 19 points behind the Falcons.
Sawyer Helms led Pfeiffer by posting a second-place finish with a 25:42, just ahead of teammate Cannon Powell, who clocked a 25:53 to finish third. Camden Misenheimer would finish fifth with a 27:02.
Freshman Bricen Burleson took home the USA South Rookie of the Year Award after finishing in sixth place with a 27:17. Cole Huggins (7th), Landon Cromer (9th) and Ezequiel Cannas (10th) also finished in the top-10.
Kohen Johnson and Ethan Witte also earned 12th and 13th place, respectively, for the Falcons, earning honorable mention All-Conference designation.
In addition, head coach Bob Marchinko was named USA South Coach of the Year, the second such designation of his career and first USA South Award.
Sawyer Helms, Cannon Powell and Camden Misenheimer were named First Team All-Conference, with Bricen Burleson, Landon Cromer and Ezequiel Cannas named Second Team All-Conference.
