The Uwharrie Players will present “Four Old Broads” the first two weekends of November at the Albemarle Neighborhood Theatre.
Retired burlesque queen Beatrice Shelton desperately needs a vacation. A Sassy Seniors Cruise through the Caribbean may be just the ticket if she can just convince her best friend, Eaddy Mae Clayton, to stop praying and go with her. Unfortunately, things
have not been very pleasant at Magnolia Place Assisted Living since Nurse Pat Jones began working there. The newest resident, Imogene Fletcher, is suddenly losing her memory. Maude Jenkins is obsessed with her favorite soap opera and planning her own funeral. Sam Smith, a retired Elvis impersonator, keeps trying to bed every woman in the building. A mystery unfolds with laughter as the gals try to outsmart the evil Nurse Pat Jones and figure out why so many residents have been moved to “the dark side.”
Hilarity ensues as Imogene goes undercover and Maude enters the Miss Magnolia Senior Citizen Pageant to throw Pat off their trail. If they can solve the mystery, they may make it to the cruise ship after all.
This senior romp is the directorial debut for UP veteran Bradley Eudy, who has stage managed 10 productions for the Players. He is excited to take a seat in the director’s chair. Eudy has been working with the cast and crew since September, running lines, fine tuning blocking and cues and gathering the perfect costumes for these characters.
When asked what he looks forward to the most with this production, Eudy says, “hearing the audience’s reaction to the incredible work these actors are doing.”
The cast is composed mostly of familiar faces to The Uwharrie Players’ stage, including Robin Rogers as Beatrice Shelton, Suzanne Holshouser as Eaddy Mae Clayton, Debbie Williams as Imogene Fletcher, Lacey Whittaker as Pat Jones, Lynne Hancock as Maude Jenkins, Tommy Johnson as Sam Smith, Avamae Anderson as Ruby Sue Bennett, and Todd Basinger and Gail Johnson as Bingo Players.
This show will also feature community member cameos, with a different surprise cast member every night.
“Four Old Broads” will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 1, 2, 8 and 9 and 3 p.m. Nov. 3 and 10 at the Albemarle Neighborhood Theatre.
Due to some mature language and content, this show is recommended for ages 13 and up.
Tickets are available at Livi Bug’s Boutique in Downtown Albemarle, online and at the door. There will be a special “Buy One, Get One” ticket night at the door on Nov. 2.
