Stanly Community College (SCC) is excited to announce the launch of the Child Care Academy in November.
This free program is an opportunity for those who are currently unemployed but aspire to build a career working with young children. It equips participants with the necessary training and certifications, paving the way for a rewarding career in the child care field.
The academy will cover essential topics that prepare participants for careers in child care, including:
• Health & Safety Training such as infectious disease prevention, emergency response planning, and building safety.
• ITS-SIDS Training (Infant-Toddler Safe Sleep).
• Managing challenging behaviors in the classroom.
• CPR & First Aid Certification.
• Licensing regulations for child care facilities.
• Infant-Toddler Trauma-Informed Care.
Participants will also receive guidance on how to register for SCC’s EDU 119 course, an introduction to early childhood education. This course is a prerequisite for obtaining the North Carolina Early Education Credential, a key requirement for becoming a lead teacher in child care facilities across the state.
In addition to providing the necessary skills and certifications, the Child Care Academy offers information about financial aid options. These resources are available to support participants in focusing on their studies without financial concerns. The program also connects participants with local child care providers, offering potential job interviews and placement opportunities.
The academy is made possible through the collaboration with Stanly County Partnership for Children and Child Care Resources, Inc., whose participation provides additional resources and expertise.
With a growing demand for qualified child care workers both locally and nationally, providers are actively seeking trained individuals to fill critical roles.
Child Care Academy graduates will be equipped with the skills and certifications needed to enter the field and make a meaningful impact on the lives of young children.
Program dates are 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Nov. 4-8 and Nov. 12-15 at Stanly Community College, 141 College Dr., Albemarle.
