The Pfeiffer University volleyball team could not overcome a dynamic Salem Spirits offense Saturday at home falling in three sets (21-25, 19-25, 26-28).
The loss dropped Pfeiffer’s record to 4-16 overall and 1-10 in USA South play.
Madison Tate finished with 14 kills on the day to lead the Falcons attack while finishing with a hitting percentage of .407. Defensively, Pfeiffer had two players reach double figures in digs as Gabby Edwards had 19 and Gabi Gama had 10.

How It Happened
The Falcons found themselves in an early deficit, losing the first set 25-21. Pfeiffer trailed by as many as 10 points as Salem never surrendered the lead in a set that was tied up just once before the Spirits took control.
Pfeiffer fell in the second set 25-19, digging a 2-0 deficit in the match. Pfeiffer trailed by as many as six points as Salem grabbed the advantage for good at 13-12 in a set that was tied up three times before the Spirits took over the lead.
Pfeiffer was not able to win set three and was swept by Salem. The Falcons lost the set 28-26 despite a strong performance on the attacking end. Pfeiffer registered a .372 attack percentage with 18 kills in the set loss.
In match two against Bob Jones, the Falcons would drop a 3-0 straight set final (14-25, 22-25, 11-25), but senior Kylee Mayberry notched her 2,000th career assist, becoming just the second player in program history to achieve the feat. She currently stands in second-place in program history with 2,000 career assists, surpassing Jenny Finch (1,926), who played for the Falcons from 2003-2004.
The non-conference loss moved Pfeiffer to 4-17 on the season.

A 25-22 second-set loss put Pfeiffer behind 2-0 in the match. The Falcons dropped a back-and-forth set, losing in a stanza that featured three lead changes and was tied eight times. Neither team led by more than four points along the way.
