Unfortunately, many folks believe (wrongly) that our election system is “rigged.” No, it is not. Even the head of elections under Trump told us that 2020 was secure all over the entire nation.
Recently, the Commission on the Future of NC Elections met at Catawba College to present their findings. They found that NC elections are currently administered securely and professionally, and they recommended only slight improvements.
This is especially significant for those who do not trust our system and should certainly puts to rest any concerns.
If some might say the Commission itself is “rigged,” there were 11 committees with both political parties, scholars, business and community leaders who hosted hearings in 26 cities over the state over a 3-month period. It is not “rigged.”
The Commission will publish their final report and any proposed reforms in January, and will include the November election to see how there might be any further improvements.
If there are still people who don’t believe our election system is safe, I would posit that they just don’t trust any part of our democracy.
And that’s a cryin’ shame.
