Pfeiffer defeats Salem at Knapp Tennis Center

The Pfeiffer University women’s tennis team (3-1) took a 5-2 nonconference win over visiting Salem College (0-3) on Sunday afternoon at the Knapp Tennis Center.
The Falcons jumped ahead 1-0 after taking two of the three contested doubles matches. The team of Sydney Cohen and Riley Isley easily won their match at No. 2 by a 6-0 score. At No. 3, Fanny Apostolou and Haley Ingenito also won their match by an identical 6-0 final.
In singles play, Pfeiffer took wins at No. 2, No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6. Megan Rekieta was victorious at No. 2 singles by a 6-0, 6-2 score. Apostolou won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4, as did Sonya Rhoades at No. 5.
Isley bested her opponent at No. 6 by a 6-0, 6-0 count to provide the 5-2 final.
The Falcons will continue play at home on Oct. 26 with a pair of home matches against Roanoke College and Johnson & Wales.
