Retired Major Gen. Gerald A. “Rudy” Rudisill Jr. joined family, friends and former colleagues Sept. 14 to celebrate a day in his honor.
For service to the President of the United States of America through the office of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, for work at the Pentagon on Sept. 11, 2001, and for a lifetime of service, Badin Town Council proclaimed the Badin native’s birthday, Sept. 22, 2024, as Major General Gerald A. “Rudy” Rudisill Jr. Day.
Recognition began in the community the previous week, with an afternoon at the 1913 Badin Inn. Nestled on its Spruce Street hillside perch, the inn, formerly known as Stanly County Country Club, was familiar ground. Rudisill’s father, Jake, had served as financial manager there decades ago.
Family, friends, colleagues, local leaders and dignitaries met until a little past 2 p.m., when the peers moved into the inn’s Carolina Room to share experiences and remarks heralding Rudisill.
Badin Mayor Gary Lowder read and presented Council’s proclamation recognizing Rudisill’s birthday.
Childhood friend and former Badin mayor Jim Harrison shared a few details of childhood experiences they shared in their youth growing up in Badin.
Also sharing thoughts regarding Rudisill were Brian Beatty, retired secretary of NC Crime Control and Public Safety, retired CSM Norman Walker, his brother Bill Rudisill, his cousin John Garrison and family member and Badin Council member Charlie Council.
Later on, invitations were extended to join the family on Yadkin Court inside Badin Historic Museum for a first look at a new exhibit spanning Rudisill’s life and career.
