I attended the Oakboro Board of Commissioners meeting [Monday] night to express my extreme disappointment in the treatment of retired K9 Joker and K9 Bane of the Oakboro Police Department.
The Town of Oakboro is stealing $19,000 of privately donated funds, that were clearly meant for K9 Joker and K9 Bane. They are transferring that money to the General Fund to do with it what they wish. That money was raised by Jason Eschert for the sole purpose of taking care of K9 Joker and K9 Bane for the rest of their lives.
I personally donated over $2,000 to that fund this year alone. I feel like that money should go exactly where it was intended and that is to K9 Joker and K9 Bane.
The Town Administrator Harvey continues to say their lawyer says this or that. Well they need to find a way to make it happen.
These K9s served their community with honor and distinction and deserve to be treated like heroes.
I never gave money to the Town of Oakboro to use as they see fit. If I was giving a donation to the Town of Oakboro, then I should have been given a tax receipt or a donation receipt that said that.
That never happened.
That fund was specifically set up to support K9 Joker and K9 Bane and that is why everyone donated.
This is theft at it’s highest form.
