Cooperative Extension to offer homesteading workshops

N.C. Cooperative Extension will have a series of homesteading workshops beginning at 8:30 a.m. Oct. 5 at the Farm Bureau Livestock Arena, 26130 Newt Road, Albemarle.
Participants can attend up to three workshops.
Breakfast will be offered 8:30-9 a.m., along with check-in and a welcome message.
Session 1, 9:15-10 a.m., will include options of Garlic 101, composting, introduction to home food preservation and backyard chicken basics.
Session 2, 10:15-11 a.m., will include options of sheep and goat basics, fall and winter crops, composting and introduction to home food preservation.
Session 3, 11:15 a.m.-noon, will include choices of raised bed basics, composting, introduction to home food preservation and backyard chicken basics.

Youth activities will happen throughout the morning for youth ages 5 to 12. Youth are admitted free with a paying adult. Children older than 12 will participate in adult classes.
