The following was submitted by Kim McGowen, annual giving officer for Stanly Health Foundation, host of Stanly County’s “Dancing With the Stars.”

Ryan Steele, a native of Mount Gilead, and Peyton Hatley, a student at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, are set to light up the dance floor at this year’s “Dancing with the Stars” event, benefiting the Butterfly House Children’s Advocacy Center.
Ryan, who now resides in Salisbury with his wife Tiffany and their two daughters, Gracie and Marlie, is no stranger to Stanly County.
A graduate of West Montgomery High School and Pfeiffer University, Ryan has deep ties to the community, including a stint as the women’s basketball coach at Albemarle High School.
Currently working at Fiberon in New London, Ryan is eager to bring his competitive spirit to the dance floor, especially as he faces off against his longtime friend, Mike Hatley. In addition to his passion for dance, Ryan is a huge George Strait fan.
Peyton, a Stanly County native, is a student pursuing majors in chemistry and biology, along with a minor in math. When she’s not immersed in her studies, Peyton can be found working at local pools and teaching lifeguard training, embodying her commitment to helping others. She is thrilled to be part of this year’s event, especially as she competes against her sister and dad, making the experience all the more personal and exciting.
Peyton’s fun fact? She survived a copperhead snake bite a few summers ago — proving that she’s got the grit to take on any challenge, on or off the dance floor.
As they prepare to showcase their moves, both Ryan and Peyton are united by a common goal: to raise funds and awareness for the Butterfly House, which plays a crucial role in supporting children and families in the community. Their participation highlights the importance of community, competition and, above all, compassion.
The event will be at 7 p.m. Sept. 7 at the Stanly County Agri-Civic Center, with the theme “The Magic of Motown.”
Tickets are $30 each and are available at stanlydancing.com or at the door. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Butterfly House Children’s Advocacy Center, providing essential services to children and families affected by abuse and/or trauma.
