An Albemarle man died following a motor vehicle accident Thursday night.

Shortly after 4:3o p.m., N.C. Highway Patrol Trooper M.R. McCormick was assigned a motor vehicle collision on St. Martin Road.

A Honda passenger vehicle was traveling east on Hazard Road and failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection of St. Martin Road, where it collided with a Ford passenger vehicle that was traveling south on St. Martin Road, according to Highway Patrol.

After the collision, the Honda overturned and came to rest in the roadway. The Ford was forced off the roadway where it collided with a tree.

David Lowder of Albemarle, a passenger in the Ford, was taken to CMC Main in Charlotte, where he passed away due to injuries sustained in the collision, according to Highway Patrol. The driver of the Ford was transported to Atrium Health Northeast in Concord with minor injuries.

The driver of the Honda, whose name has not been released by Highway Patrol, has been charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle and stop sign violation. Alcohol was not a factor, Highway Patrol said.
