The following was submitted by Kim McGowen, annual giving officer for Stanly Health Foundation, host of Stanly County’s “Dancing With the Stars.”

The highly anticipated 12th annual Dancing with the Stars event, benefiting Butterfly House Children’s Advocacy Center, will feature the dynamic couple Susan Glenn Dennis and Dr. Jarrod Dennis. Their participation promises to bring grace and enthusiasm to the dance floor while supporting a crucial cause.
Susan Glenn Dennis, originally from Durham, brings a background rich in education and community service.
With a Master’s Degree in Business and Marketing Education from East Carolina University, Susan spent years teaching high school in Durham Public Schools before becoming a mother and preschool teacher.
Outside of her professional life, Susan is an active volunteer for Meals-on-Wheels, an avid cook and cherishes time with her family and friends.
Married to Dr. Jarrod Dennis, the superintendent of Stanly County Schools, Susan is thrilled to be part of this event and contribute to raising funds for the Butterfly House.
Dr. Jarrod Dennis is a proud native of Stanly County, having grown up in the Oakboro community and attended West Stanly High School.
His career in education began as a teacher at Forest Hills High School. Following his service in Iraq, Dennis returned to education, moving into school administration.
His roles have included assistant principal at Northern High School in Durham, principal at Orange Charter School (now Eno River Academy) and principal at Person High School. In 2015, he joined Person County Schools as assistant superintendent, later becoming deputy superintendent in 2017.
Since 2020, Dennis has served as the superintendent of Stanly County Schools.
Alongside his professional achievements, Dennis is a devoted family man, sharing three children — Amelia, Ava and Lucas — with his wife of 15 years, Susan.
The event, themed “Magic of Motown,” will take place at 7 p.m. Sept. 7 at the Stanly County Agri-Civic Center. With 11 talented dance teams preparing to dazzle the audience, it’s an occasion to celebrate community spirit and support a worthy cause.
Tickets are available now, and all proceeds will benefit the Butterfly House Children’s Advocacy Center, providing essential services to children and families in need.
