Man sentenced for sexual crimes against minor

The Stanly County Sheriff’s Office began investigating a sexual assault in April 2021.

On Oct. 15, 2021, George Kevin Helms was charged with multiple sexual offenses.
On Aug. 20, 2024, the Stanly County District Attorney’s Office began presenting the case to a jury, according to the Stanly County Sheriff’s Office.
On Aug. 26, a jury found Helms guilty of two counts of indecent liberties with a child, two counts of first degree sexual exploitation of a minor, and two counts of second degree exploitation of a minor.
Helms was sentenced to two terms of 58-103 months to be served consecutively.
