Uwharrie Play Oasis recently opened in the shopping center at Harris-Teeter in Albemarle.
It is a drop-in daycare/play location.
The business is the creation of Season Mabry. Katrina Smith, a friend of Mabry, is the manager.
“The idea for Uwharrie Play Oasis came about from my need to have somewhere for my children to visit,” Mabry said. “My busy schedule did not always lend itself to being able to take the kids with me. I wanted something that I could use ‘in the moment.’ As a drop-in care facility you do not have to commit to anything unless you want to.”
Mabry said she “wanted to offer a service that catered to the needs of the community with young children, but also create a place where children can have fun, be safe and thrive all at the same time.”
Smith said she has more than 20 years experience in daycare, ranging from birth to teens.
Uwharrie Play Oasis will offer a 3- to 5-year-old preschool program when the public school year begins. A day camp is offered for students until school returns.
Uwharrie is open 8:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
