Union Power awarded three local students Touchstone Energy Sports Camp Scholarships to attend basketball camp this summer at two of the state’s largest college campuses.
Milli Furr from North Stanly Middle School and Cora Faust from Gray Stone Day School will attend the Wolfpack Women’s Basketball Camp at NC State University. Eli Goldman from West Stanly Middle School will attend the Carolina Basketball School at UNC Chapel Hill.
A panel of judges, unaffiliated with the cooperative, reviewed all applications and awarded scholarships to the students based on their academic achievements, extracurricular activities, an essay and short-answer questions.
The scholarship provides students with the opportunity to stay in a college dorm, learn from collegiate coaches and current/former student-athletes. Coaches and players will share their techniques and provide personalized guidance to each camper, helping them develop fundamental skills, practice hard and foster teamwork.
The Wolfpack Women’s Basketball camp is led by head coach Wes Moore, his coaching staff and current and former N.C. State women’s basketball players. The Carolina Basketball School is led by head coach, former player Hubert Davis, his staff and current and former Tar Heel basketball players.
More than 50 students from across the state will attend basketball camp this year on a Touchstone Energy Sports Camp scholarship from electric cooperatives in North Carolina. The scholarship program demonstrates the electric cooperatives’ commitment to building a brighter future through continued support for education and community programs.
