A GoFundMe has been started to help raise funding for a nonprofit that Cameron Stout started with his sister.

The fundraiser was started by Brook Albanese and any money raised will go towards Stout’s nonprofits, Mentor Minds and Youth Saved By Mentors, that he founded along with his sister Kayla.

“The money will be used to continue helping with the outreach his sister and family will continue to do to keep his legacy alive,” Albanese wrote in the GoFundMe.

Stout was also a youth coach at more than one location, as he spent time working as a coach at the Salisbury YMCA and at Shoot360 in Charlotte.

“Cameron’s compassion and empathy made him a trusted confidant for the campers/trainees, who looked up to him as a role model. He fostered an inclusive environment where every child felt valued and supported. His leadership skills and positive attitude not only brightened the children’s days but also left a lasting impact on their lives,” Stout’s family wrote in his obituary.

Stout was a student in the health and physical education program at Pfeiffer University, where he was a rising junior. There, he worked on a project that involved his work with the after-school program at the YMCA, as he worked on a project to help ensure a safe, fun and bully-free environment to help the children he worked with, according to a release from the university.

“Cam loved basketball, but he also cared deeply about changing the lives of others for the better,” Dawn Lucas, the professor who taught the course Stout worked on the project in, is quoted as saying in the release.

Pfeiffer University plans to hold a memorial service for Stout’s classmates and campus community members in August, when students return to the school. The visitation and funeral service were held in Livingstone College’s Varick Auditorium on Sunday.

Stout died on May 19 in a late-night car crash just outside of Charlotte. Troopers with the N.C. State Highway Patrol said that the crash occurred when his vehicle ran off the road near the Interstate 485 and Interstate 85 intersection. He was 20 years old.
