The Uwharrie Wampus Cats have released their 2024 schedule in what will be the local club’s first as members of the MLB-supported Southern Collegiate Baseball League.

The Cats will look to build on last year’s inaugural season record of 18-17.

Single-game tickets are available now at wampuscatsbaseball.com for $7. Tickets can be purchased for $8 at the gate.

“We’re very excited about welcoming back our fans for Year 2,” said team owner and president Greg Sullivan. “We encourage fans to buy online for our home opener on May 25. We’re hoping for another crowd like last summer’s opener when we had more than 700 fans.”

Season tickets are available at the team’s online shop for $100, which is $4 per ticket.

The team has already announced more than 30 signed players on its social media roster announcements ahead of the season. Some notable returners include first baseman BJ Williams (Jackson State), first baseman Bryson Bebber (St. Andrews) and local pitcher Garrett Swink (Southern Wesleyan), to name a few. The team also features several players with Stanly County and Charlotte area ties. Players from Gardner-Webb, Catawba, Pfeiffer and other schools in the area are represented.

This year’s team will be led by new head coach Josh Kent.

“We think we’ve added some nice bats and on paper will have an improved lineup from last summer,” Sullivan said. “We also have some good pitching depth, which is always important at this level. We’re looking forward to seeing some elevated competition in our new league and to seeing how our guys respond to the challenge.”

The Wampus Cats open on the road at the Boone Bigfoots on May 23. The first home game is May 25 at 7 p.m. vs. the Carolina Disco Turkeys. The team is also home on Memorial Day and Father’s Day and plays 25 home games total. It plays more than 40 games overall, including a trip to visit the Asheboro ZooKeepers in July. Following the season is the SCBL Tournament.
