Pfeiffer Women’s Tennis wins USA South Tournament opener

Misenheimer – The Pfeiffer University women’s tennis team won their USA South opening match over visiting Brevard by a 5-3 score.

THE BASICS
The No. 4 seeded Falcons opened the match with a 2-1 result in doubles play over the fifth-seeded Tornados.
After falling in the No. 3 doubles match, Pfeiffer freshman Caimbree Gann and junior Megan Rekieta drew the match even at 1-1 after an 8-5 win at No. 1 doubles. Riley Isley and Alison Sloop put Pfeiffer ahead 2-1 with an 8-7 (7-5) win in a competitive match at No.2.
Brevard would draw even at 2-2 after Hannah Hersh downed Gann at No. 1 singles, but Pfeiffer responded with a 6-1, 6-2 win from Isley at No. 4 singles followed by a Kristen Colie win in the No. 6 match to make it 4-3.
Haley Ingenito proved to be the deciding point, as she took care of Brevard’s Madison Bowen at the No. 3 position by a 6-3, 6-3 score to end the match at 5-3. The win improves Ingenito to 21-2 overall and 16-1 in dual matches this season.
The Next Match
The Falcons will advance to the USA South semifinals on Friday with a 10 a.m. match against top-seeded N.C. Wesleyan in Rocky Mount.
