Frank Lefler was born Oct. 13, 1885, and grew up in the Copal Grove area of Stanly County. He became a farmer, but during the winter months he was a teacher. After attending the Moler Barber College in Atlanta, Lefler returned to Albemarle. According to the Nov. 25, 1955 Stanly News & Press, he began cutting hair at the Central Hotel Barber Shop in 1912. His first customer was Hazel Morrow. Lefler opened his own barber shop, the Acme Barber Shop, in February 1915, but he was back at the Central Hotel Barber Shop later that year. According to the June 21, 1921 Stanly News-Herald, Lefler left the barber trade and moved to Sumter, South Carolina to manage a bakery. In February 1923, he and his family moved back to Albemarle where he worked at the Sanitary Barber Shop. Lefler purchased a half interest in the Ideal Barber Shop in June 1923 and in February 1924, he sold that interest and purchased the Hotel Albemarle Barber Shop. Lefler continued there until he passed away on April 1, 1956. {Lewis Bramlett – Stanly County Historical Society}
