BADIN/PALESTINE NEWS: Students read, sing in a ‘Winter Wonderland’

Badin Elementary

Students and staff can enjoy 10 Days of Christmas by following the dress suggestions on the school’s Facebook page — school spirit wear and a holiday hat are in order on Wednesday.

Families are invited to Literacy Night (Title 1) tonight for “Reading and Singing in a Winter Wonderland.”

Kindergarten, first and second grades will be singing in the auditorium at 5:30 p.m. then shopping at the Book Fair from 6-6:30 p.m. Third, fourth and fifth grades will shop at the Book Fair from 5:30-6 p.m. and sing from 6-6:30 p.m. in the auditorium.

Town Business

Limb and Brush pickup is today. Leaf collection is ongoing. Please check the town website for a street-by-street schedule.
Town Council has called a meeting for Dec. 6 at 7 p.m. in Town Hall, 36 Falls Road, to discuss stormwater projects and asphalt patching. Afterwards, the Council goes into closed session to consider personnel matters.

The Town Council’s regular meeting is Dec. 12 at 7 p.m. in Town Hall.

Town Hall’s holiday closings are Dec. 25-27 and Jan. 1-2, 2024.

Better Badin

Members will hold the monthly meeting Dec. 11 at 6:30 p.m. in the fellowship hall of Badin Baptist Church. All volunteers and interested Badin residents are invited to attend.

The Winterfest Committee made a difficult decision last week to cancel Winterfest due to expected rainy conditions on Saturday.

The Committee spent many months planning for this special Badin event and appreciated the volunteers, vendors and performers who were poised to help make the day merry and bright.

Badin Library

This month’s Storytime and Christmas Crafts will take place Dec. 12 at 10:30 a.m. The Library will be closed Dec. 26.

A puzzle swap is coming up for puzzle lovers. Drop off gently used puzzles at the Badin branch no later than Dec. 8, then pick up an equal number of puzzles at the Albemarle Library on Dec. 16.

Badin Presbyterian

Everyone is invited to the Candlelight Christmas Service on Dec. 17 at 5 p.m. at the church, 153 Spruce St. The pastor is Rev. Dan Wray.

Sunshine Club

The date of this month’s fellowship event is one week earlier than usual. Please join friends and neighbors for some Christmas songs and a festive covered dish lunch on Dec. 19 at 10:30 a.m. in the fellowship hall of Badin Baptist, 36 Falls Road.

Museum Holiday Store

Badin Historic Museum, 62 Falls Road, will have its holiday pop-up shop through Dec. 23 in the Firehouse Museum, including Moravian baked goods.

Treats like sugar cookies, sugar cakes and other sweets along with frozen chicken pot pies and seasonal offerings will add to the local shopping experience in Badin.

A portion of the proceeds will go toward the museum’s ongoing mission to record and display Badin’s history.

Museum store hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Friday and Saturday. Sunday hours are 2-5 p.m.

Palestine Community

Women of the church are invited to the Christmas party on Dec. 7 at Jay’s Seafood, Stony Gap Road, Albemarle. Please meet at the church hut, 36414 Palestine Road, at 5:30 p.m. to carpool to Jay’s.

Palestine’s Christmas Music Service will be Dec. 10 at 6 p.m.

Please bring your favorite finger food and a beverage to share afterwards.

Palestine Pals are invited to a holiday lunch in the church’s fellowship hall on Dec. 12 at 11:30 a.m. Please RSVP to Wendell Drye. Dessert and beverage contributions will also be appreciated.

The next Badin Backpack Delivery is Dec. 15. Some of the items needed are graham crackers, snack crackers, macaroni and cheese cups, fruit cups, etc. Please see Kathy Blalock for details.
