UPDATE: Stanly County Sheriff’s Office investigates shooting of kayaker at City Lake Park

The Stanly County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting on Long Lake.
Shortly after 11:40 a.m., Albemarle Police, sheriff’s investigators and other emergency personnel responded to 815 Concord Road, City Lake Park, in reference to a gunshot wound. The victim was a kayaker, later identified as a 36-year-old Albemarle woman, who was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Witness statements to law enforcement on scene indicated the shots were fired from the opposite side of City Lake Park, therefore the Sheriff’s Office is conducting the investigation into this incident.
Although initial statements indicate this may have been someone target shooting, all possibilities are being investigated, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
