Albemarle Rotary Club conducted its 2nd Annual Race to Remember June 10 during Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness Month.
Around 100 runners and walkers participated in the 5K and one-mile races to help raise more than $9,500 for Coins for Alzheimer’s Research TRUST (CART).
The fundraiser nearly doubled the total of around $5,800 raised in 2022.
Rotary members in South Carolina began CART in the late 1990s and grants totaling more than $11.5 million have been awarded since.
Louisa Jane Hartsell, who lost her father, Jeff, last year to dementia, coordinated the Albemarle event to raise awareness about these diseases.
“This is a cause that is close to my heart and many others in our community that are affected with this devastating disease,” Hartsell said.
