On Tuesday, at approximately 2:45 a.m., officers from the Albemarle Police Department were notified that a Dodge Charger Hellcat was being pursued by the Biscoe Police Department. The vehicle crossed into Stanly County and was quickly approaching the city limits of Albemarle at a high rate of speed, according to information released by Albemarle Police.
The Stanly County Sheriff’s Office was able to deploy stop sticks on East Main Street near Charter Street in an effort to stop the vehicle from speeding through Albemarle. The stop sticks were successful and disabled both right-side tires on the vehicle.
Albemarle Police attempted to stop the vehicle at N.C. Highway 24-27 and East Main Street, however, the vehicle continued traveling on its rims until reaching the city limits of Locust.
The vehicle stopped after it struck a North Carolina State Highway Patrol vehicle. At this point, the two males in the suspect vehicle fled on foot.
With the assistance of Oakboro Police, Locust Police and Stanfield Police, the two suspects were taken into custody.
Investigation revealed the vehicle was stolen during the night from a car dealership in Fuquay-Varina.
Investigators worked Tuesday to identify the suspects as they do not have any form of identification and are not cooperating with investigators. Both men are in the Stanly County Jail.
