Community members have come together to arrange a benefit for the daughter of a former resident.
Anne Scarboro Brand and John Williams Jr., managers of the Hall House & Gardens, 343 N. Second St., Albemarle, will host Barbecue, Boos and Bluegrass at 6 p.m. Oct. 30.

The event includes food by The Improper Pig, drinks by Divine Barrel Brewing and bluegrass music by The Axe Handlers. There will also be items from Miss Debbie’s Specialty Apples available for sale.

All of the proceeds from the event will go to help Keegan, the 15-year-old daughter of Bobby and Danyel Bailey Reville of Wilmington.

Keegan was diagnosed with leukemia at age 14 in July. Her mother grew up in Albemarle and they still have family members in Stanly County.

“They are so immensely grateful,” Brand said. “They are actually able to spend time with the sick child and their other children. This money is giving them time more than anything else.”

While insurance covers some expenses, Brand pointed out it doesn’t cover travel, hotels and necessities for the other children while their parents are with their sister at UNC Hospital.

The Hall House is also raffling off a Christmas stay for a family of eight and a garden party for up to 50 people, which could be used for a wedding.

Cost to attend the event is $50 per person. Attendees, who must be age 21 and older, are asked to bring their own chair. Tickets must be purchased by 5 p.m. Monday and are available through a link on Hall House & Gardens’ Facebook page.
