Rain had dampened the closing day at the 1951 Stanly County Fair. But so had the FBI.
Agents from the Charlotte office had raided the John Marks Shows at the fairgrounds, confiscating 17 gambling machines. They were described as the outlawed “rotary” or “digger” types.
