With seven seconds remaining in the second overtime period, Falcon midfielder Nico Soriano (Concord, N.C.) unleashed a 35-yard blast that found the upper right corner of the goal, lifting Pfeiffer to an improbable 3-2 win over visiting Piedmont University Saturday afternoon at Lefko Field

Pfeiffer (3-2) took the early 1-0 lead when senior Cristyan Cabrera (Salisbury, N.C.) blasted home a shot after a cross from Ryan Jordan with 21:44 on the first half clock.

Caleb Livengood (Thomasville, N.C.) put the Falcons up 2-0 at 28:44 with an unassisted goal, a lead that would last through the halftime break.

Piedmont (2-4) would find the net when Evan Saylor scored on an assist from Matthew Franklin at 50:59.  Piedmont would tie the match at 77:24 when Franklin scored an unassisted goal.

Both teams battled evenly through both overtime periods, until a final Pfeiffer push in the waning seconds set up Soriano’s golden goal blast, which set off a wild celebration on the far sideline.

Pfeiffer  returns to play against Roanoke College at 7 pm. Wednesday at Lefko Field.
