County Audit

Stanly County had ended the 1965-66 fiscal year on June 20 with an unrestricted surplus of $184,162.60, according to the audit report of Alfred C. Starling, CPA.

“Stanly County has enjoyed another very good year, financially,” Starling reported. “Tax collections were exceptionally good, with 94.63 percent of the current levy collected prior to June 30. Collection of prior years’ taxes was also good.”

Voters

Voters of Albemarle had approved the issuance of $775,000 in bonds for improvement of the city’s electrical distribution system in light voting.

The count was 506 in favor of the bonds and 73 against.

Schools

Stanly County Board of Education on Monday night and Tuesday night had spent considerable time studying and discussing preliminary plans for additions at the three consolidated high schools and Locust Elementary School.

The plans for Locust has been approved and the architect instructed to prepare as soon as possible working drawings and specifications on the project. It was hoped bids might be secured and reviewed by Oct. 15 on the addition.
