With only 33 percent of Stanly County fully vaccinated, and so many children now included in new cases of the Delta variant, we applaud the Board of Education’s vote for children and staff to be masked at school.

That so many parents are angry and maybe even ignorant of the science at this point is mind boggling, and we urge them to open their mind to the science as it is unfolding. Yes, that’s what science does; it changes as new data is understood and peer reviewed.

As a physicist, the science and the statistics are clear.

Dr. Lefler said to those upset parents, and we all should understand, “It’s not about you. It’s about everybody in the community. Covid is not a joke.“

And by the way, it was shameful for some in the crowd to shout “lies” when the School Board did not lie about this matter.
