Taxes

County Manager Bill Forbes revealed in his budget message to the county commissioners that the county’s percentage of tax collections has dropped by 4 percent during the past five years.

The current collection rate was 93 percent.

Optimists

Robbie Efird of West Stanly High and Laura Yost of Albemarle Senior High were named winners of the Boy and Girl of the Year awards presented by Albemarle Optimist Club.

Each received watches symbolic of the honor at the club’s regular meeting.

Other nominees were Tammy Kirkley and Adam Lowe of South Stanly, Teresa Ramsey and Greg McKee of North Stanly, David Moose of Albemarle and Bobby Furr of West Stanly.

Girls’ State

Ellen Beth Hartsell and Paula Ann Coble of West Stanly High were selected to attend the 1981 Girls’ State at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

At Girls’ State the girls will learn the organization and functions of state government and hear talks from government leaders. The program is sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary.
