Friday evening saw all three Albemarle Fire Department Stations respond to a call of a fire at the Albemarle Wal-Mart at 781 Leonard Avenue.

According to Albemarle Fire Chief T. Pierre Brewton, Stations 11, 12 and 13 responded to a fire started on some plastic items and wooden palettes situated outside the lawn and garden department. The building itself did not catch fire, he added.

There were no injuries to any citizens or responders, Brewton said, adding the fire was contained in approximately eight minutes.

Initial investigation of the fire indicated it had been started, which prompted an arrest approximately 25 minutes after the incident, Brewton said. The name of the suspect has not yet been released.

The Albemarle fire chief complimented the city’s police and fire departments for working closely together to catch the suspect, saying “hat’s off to both institutions.”
