An Albemarle couple died after a van hit the moped they were riding Saturday night.
Highway Patrol Sgt. Eric Phillips said Joshua Burleson, 29, of Denton was driving a 2004 Ford van east on the Northeast Connector around 10:49 p.m. Burleson went to make a left turn onto Palestine Road.
“The van turned into the path of the moped,” Phillips said.
Allen Aldridge, 59, of Albemarle died at the scene. His wife, passenger Tammy Aldridge, 59, died a short time later at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, Phillips said.
Neither Burleson nor his passenger sustained injuries.
Phillips said “alcohol was a contributing factor” in the wreck.
The investigation remains underway and charges are pending, Phillips said.
