The Stanly Arts Guild has announced the awarding of an art scholarship of $1,000 to Steven Hammond, a rising junior at Anderson University in South Carolina.
The Patricia Blake Hartley scholarship provides financial assistance to a Stanly County student enrolled in a college visual arts program. The award is sponsored annually by the Hartley family in memory of their mother, Patricia, a longtime member of the Stanly Arts Guild and strong advocate for art education.
Steven is majoring in graphic arts and presented a display of his artwork to the guild board, which is pleased to announce the award.
He was an honor student at Carolina Christian Academy who has continued his academic skills and campus involvement with RUF at Anderson.
Steven is the son of Bob and Wendy Hammond of Locust.
“It has been my pleasure to meet Steven and to see his artistic skills and talents put to use,” said Carole Poplin, scholarship chairwoman for the guild. “We appreciate so much the Patricia Blake Hartley family for financially assisting young people who love art to continue their studies.”
