Emricci Pizzeria in Locust will host a community event from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Aug. 25 to help raise money for the kids of former Locust Police Chief Steven “Smitty” Smith, who passed away last month.

Owner Dave Emrich said that 20 percent of all sales over $1,000 will go to the college fund of Smith’s kids, Riley and Hunter.

Emricci’s will be open for dine in (50 percent capacity due to the coronavirus), carry out, curbside or delivery.

“We have a resource here that we can use to help benefit people and so we are very thankful to have the opportunity to do that,” Emrich said.

The police department recently posted on its Facebook page that people who want to help the Smith family can also make donations at any State Employees’ Credit Union in the county or they can send donations to the Locust Police at PO Box 190 or in-person at 186 Ray Kennedy Dr.
