The following is from Kelly Dombrowski, principal of Oakboro Choice STEM School.
Welcome back, STEM families!
So far, 2020 marks a year of great changes and many unknowns. We have worked hard this summer to prepare for multiple versions of how we will return to school, but one thing remains consistent and that is the love and care we have for our scholars and their families.
We know that each child and family need something different and true to the STEM learning style, teamwork and collaboration works best both in the classroom and throughout our school.
As you are making decisions that fit your family’s needs best, know that we are a team and are here to help you make it work!
For those of you who are new to the STEM family, I’d like to introduce myself. I will be starting my fourth year as the principal and have been since it opened in 2017. I am the proud mom to three girls and have been married to my husband, Jason, for 20 years.
This year, students may return to different processes throughout the day, but the same hands-on learning will remain the same. Teachers have been planning new ways to do dynamic activities, but within guidelines so that scholars can continue their STEM learning safely.
When you arrive on campus you will see a new look for our exterior doors. This window tinting not only sparks school pride, but keeps our students and staff safer by minimizing the ability to see in during the school days. We are so thankful to our amazing PTO for making this happen.
Our garden is back up and running with above ground boxes donated this spring and ready to have classes plant their seeds and track growth.
This spring we utilized our remote status to “visit” the world with scholars getting to Google Meet with guests from many countries such as Norway, England, Thailand and Germany! This same international perspective will be shared throughout this school year with the relationships we forged this past spring and we are excited
to expand our global exposure and awareness when we return in the fall!
We have a lot to be excited about, most of all about seeing you again, but whether you choose to return to school in a seated classroom or remotely — you are an Oakboro scholar and we are in this together!
Seated or remote, we will continue to build a culture of excellence because we are a small community, building global thinkers … We Are Oakboro!
I look forward to seeing you!
