Football, other fall sports delayed by NCHSAA

The North Carolina High School Athletic Association announced Wednesday the postponement of fall sports to the winter of 2020 and spring of 2021.

According to a calendar released, football will now start practice Feb. 8, 2021 with a maximum seven-game schedule. The regular season for football will wrap up by April 9.

Cross-country and volleyball will open practice Nov. 4 and begin regular-season play Nov. 16, wrapping up Jan. 8, 2021.

Basketball has been pushed back to begin practice Dec. 7, with the regular season opening Jan. 4, 2021 and running to Feb. 19.

Men’s soccer, ordinarily a fall sport, moves to Jan. 11 for the start of practice and Jan. 25 for the regular season.

The calendar also has changed for the spring sports. Golf, men’s tennis, women’s soccer and softball open March 1 with a maximum 14-game schedule to play starting March 15.

Baseball, women’s tennis, track and field and wrestling will start practice April 12 and begin play April 26. Baseball, tennis and wrestling will be limited to 14 games, with track and field limited to 10 meets.

Swimming and diving start Nov. 23 and open the regular season Dec. 7.
