Over the years Stanly County has had a number of well-known figures in the sports, entertainment and business worlds.

At the same time, however, there are others with Stanly County connections with unique stories that are not as well known.

There are connections to several presidents, an aspiring astronaut, an athlete way ahead of her time and even several con artists. There is a connection to a famous event in World War II and even to the Country Music Hall of Fame.

The Stanly County Historical Society will have a link to an online presentation available at its website, historicstanly.org, from Saturday through Aug. 16 called “They Did What?”

During this presentation I will share these unique stories and I hope you will tune in and watch.
