With the help of the community, Sgt. Bryan Springer, a member of The Friends of Butterfly House, and the Albemarle Police Department hosted the 7th Annual Casting for Kids Bass Fishing Tournament May 16.
More than 50 boats entered the event. At the end of the day, first place winners Donnie Maiers and Dean Benfield weighed in five fish totaling 21.47 pounds. Second place finishers were Cameron Andrews and Matt Stanly, weighing in five fish at 18.32 pounds. Third place went to Mike Watson and Gary Ballard for five fish totaling 17.49 pounds.
Maiers and Benfield caught the biggest fish of the day, one weighing 6 pounds 10 ounces.
The team took home $2,000, with second winning $500 and third taking $250.
