The Alpha Psi Upsilon Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa at Stanly Community College has been recognized as a Three Star Level Chapter.
PTK is an international honor society that recognizes the achievements of two-year college students. The goal of PTK is to provide members with opportunities to grow as scholars and leaders.
Officers and members worked together to meet international requirements for Three Star Level status. Some of the activities required include identifying and inviting eligible students to become members, officers meeting with college administration to develop and discuss goals of the chapter, increasing awareness of PTK on the SCC campus and participating in a regional project.
In addition, the PTK officers and advisors attended the Carolinas Regional Leadership Conference last November in Spartanburg, S.C. At the conference, PTK officers from SCC participated in workshops and utilized skills to develop chapter plans.
The SCC PTK chapter also participated in the Carolinas Region Honors Program that included hosting a booth at the SCC Fall Festival last October. Members provided information to raise awareness about domestic violence, distributed purple ribbons and raised $168.92 to donate to the Esther House in Albemarle.
Members are also planning a project to help educate the SCC campus about the needs of foster children in the area, as well as gathering donations of lightly used suitcases and other needed supplies.
