West Stanly 8, West Davidson 0

The West Stanly Colts opened the 2020 season Monday afternoon with a non-conference road win versus West Davidson played at Catawba College.

Jordan Hatch got the win on the mound throwing a one-hit complete game, striking out 12 batters.

Teagan Ritchie had two hits while Morgan Edwards and Meredith Harwood both had RBIs. Shelby Barbee also added a two-run home run for the colts and Carmen McRae got her first hit as a varsity player.

West is scheduled to travel to South Stanly Thursday night.

Baseball

North Stanly 12, South Davidson 0

The North Stanly Comets opened the season Monday night with a 12-0 Yadkin Valley Conference win at South Davidson.

Starter Nic Melton and Rhett Lowder in relief combined to throw five no-hit innings for the Comets.

Melton, Dylan Eudy and Jackson Lisk each added two RBIs in the win. Melton, Lowder, Luke Shaver, Colby Hammer and Cooper Hogan had two hits each for the Comets.

North Stanly hosts Olympic Thursday night.
