Two Stanly County baseball teams recently took the long drives to compete in their respective Babe Ruth Baseball Southeast Regionals.

The 13-year olds opened pool play last Wednesday in Williamsburg, Va. and took on Greenville, losing to the eventual regional champions, 9-4. Stanly then faced the Florida North champions from Tallahassee and suffered a 5-2 defeat.

On Friday, a 6-3 loss to Arlington, Va. ended the team’s play at regionals.

In Stafford, Va., the Stanly 14-year olds, also opening Wednesday, suffered three losses in pool play. Stanly lost to the eastern North Carolina champs, Greenville, 25-0, then suffered an 8-0 loss to the eventual champions from Fort Caroline, Florida. A 12-0 loss to Arlington, Va. ended Stanly’s run in the tournament.
