Oakboro’s 4th of July Celebration kicks off Friday night

Oakboro will be a hoppin’ place Friday night.
Not only is it the fourth Friday of the month, when the town’s classic car Cruise-In occurs, it also begins the 61st Annual Oakboro 4th of July Celebration.
“We have lots of events going on. It’s always fun for the whole family,” said Wes Tucker, who serves as emcee for events such as the talent competition on Monday night and the Miss Stanly County Fire Queen Pageant on the morning of July 4.
For the latter, Tucker said it is the biggest fire queen competition in years, with 11 young ladies signed up to represent fire departments across the county.
Something new as far as carnival rides go is armbands will be sold for $18 each day except July 4, Tucker said.
Armbands allow for unlimited rides.
More information previewing the Stanly County Fire Queen Pageant will appear in the Weekend Edition of The Stanly News & Press.
