The Albemarle Downtown Development Corporation, in conjunction with the City of Albemarle and Albemarle Parks & Recreation, present Beach Blast in Downtown Albemarle Saturday.
The day kicks off with the 15th annual Beach Blast 5K by the Uwharrie Running Club at 8 a.m.
The Beach Blast street festival will take place on the block of North Second Street in front of Albemarle City Hall from 6-10 p.m.
A food truck rodeo will be set up in the festival area.
Carolina Beach Music award-winning band Gary Lowder and Smokin’ Hot takes the stage at 7 p.m., with a shag contest scheduled in between sets. Festival goers are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs, or hit the dance floor and shag the night away.
Kids can enjoy a water slide inflatable on the front lawn of Albemarle City Hall, courtesy of Albemarle Parks and Recreation, as well as face painting by Vicki Galloway, and roving performances from the Soap Bubble Circus.
A beer garden and cornhole will be set up at Courthouse Square on the corner of Main and Second streets.
Public parking is available behind Albemarle City Hall on North Third, on East Main Street between Courthouse Square Park and the Stanly County Public Library and at the corner of West Main and South First streets.
“I’m always excited to help host an event that everyone in the community can enjoy,” said Joy Almond, Main Street Manager and director of the ADDC. “The Beach Blast provides an opportunity to showcase the great things happening in Downtown Albemarle, and our sponsors are vital to keeping such events alive. I hope everyone will continue to support our small businesses throughout the summer season.”
