Pfeiffer senior sets pitching mark; Falcons sweep Wesleyan

Pfeiffer University senior pitcher Kiana Millsaps set the program mark for pitching wins in a career in the Falcons doubleheader sweep of Wesleyan on Sunday afternoon
The Falcons (18-2) got things started in the first inning when Vada Blue Sherrill scored on a throwing error by the Wesleyan (6-6) catcher. Hannah Tyner would single, then Makenzie Pennell would knock a double that scored Tyner, making it 2-0.
In the second inning, Pfeiffer added four more runs to the tally, making the score 6-0. The big hit would come on Kiana MIllsaps two-run double to right center.
In the fourth, Sherrill would score on a Tyner sacrifice and in the fifth, Alyssa Heitz would end the game with a walk-off double that allowed Carson Watkins to provide the 8-0 final score.
Pfeiffer struck quickly in game two, scoring four runs in the first. Reece Davis launched her second home run of the season, a three-run shot to left-center in the inning to help the Falcons lead 4-0 after the first.
Six more Pfeiffer runs would cross in the second inning thanks to five Wesleyan errors in the frame, making it 10 at the end of the second. The Falcons pushed another across in the third inning when Sarah Bowles hitting an RBI double which scored Sherrill, who reached on a leadoff walk.
Kiana Millsaps shut down the Wesleyan offense, allowing two hits in three innings of work while striking out four, earning her the win which improves her to 12-1 on the season.
The win also makes Millsaps the Pfeiffer career leader in pitching wins. She now has a career record of 46-11.
The Falcons will hit the road for a doubleheader at Guilford College on Thursday at 3 p.m.
